Hello, I am a psychodynamic therapist based in London Bridge.
I have a warm and genuine approach and hope to offer you a containing reflective space each week. My first training was as a psychodynamic art psychotherapist and, following other psychodynamic and trauma focused trainings I now integrate these different modalities depending on your interest or issues. The most important aspect of therapy though is a live and thoughtful listening, kindness and respect for your individuality and experience.
I have worked as a therapist at The Priory in addictions and mental health; the charity sector for older adults and people impacted by homelessness, and currently part time in the NHS offering trauma focused therapy. Due to this varied work I have a deep and working understanding of the impact of discrimination, trauma, socio-economic factors and abusive or emotionally absent caregivers on mental health.
Psychosexual therapy, sometimes called sex therapy is a talking therapy for individuals and couples who want to improve intimacy and have a deeper understanding of sexual issues.
Psychosexual therapy can help you explore:
Common sexual functioning issues are:
With the aim of building on my resources and knowledge for couples and individuals who have sexual issues, I am undertaking the psychosexual therapy training at Tavistock Relationships. During the final year of this course I am offering up to 20 weeks of psychosexual therapy at low cost to couples.
Psychosexual therapy is a psychodynamic relationship therapy, it is a talking based treatment and does not involve touch.
I have worked as a trauma therapist for a number of years and have helped adults age 16-80 with single incident and complex trauma.
If you find your body responding to safe, everyday situations in a reactive way such as a sick feeling in the stomach, quickened heartbeat, being easily startled or if you often retreat into duvet days this may be because your body has remained in a state of high alert or complete shutdown in an attempt to protect you from a repeat of the traumatic event/s you experienced.
It is very normal for people who have had deeply fearful experiences to feel cut off and numb when describing difficult memories, again the numbness is a normal way for a distressed mind to protect itself, allowing a detached retelling of events rather than reliving it and becoming overwhelmed all over again.
A trauma focused therapy plan which includes EMDR and image making can change the way you feel towards your past experience and help you to feel more comfortable within yourself. This is because it is less concerned with recounting events and more focused on working through sensations, images, sounds and ideas connected to the memory. Both modalities help you to access positive, creative thinking and dissolve unhelpful beliefs that have developed as a response to the distressing life experiences.
If you have developed addictive, stressful or isolating habits to survive until now we can also work on reducing these when you feel ready.
For survivors of sexual trauma, you may need to address sexual functioning such as issues with erection, orgasm or penetration. You may also struggle to feel intimacy with your partner or feel present in your body during sex.
Please include in the contact form the main issue/s you would like to address and the best times in the week to call for a free 15 min consultation.
Sessions are 50 mins and are low cost for people with sexual issues while I complete a specialist psychosexual training. I can offer online and in person but I encourage you to attend the first introductory session in person before moving online if need.
The therapy room is calm, quiet confidential space five minutes' walk from London Bridge station (northern and jubilee lines). It is easily accessible from Central and South East London.
